MICHAEL THEODORE

Born in Montreal, Michael Theodore has been entertaining audiences since the age of four, when he made his first television appearance and discovered a passion for show business that would shape his life.

Inspired by the music and songwriting of artists like The Beatles and Bruce Springsteen, Michael picked up his first guitar at 14 and quickly began writing songs of his own. His passion for music eventually led him to study Theatre Arts at John Abbott College, where opera and choral training helped develop his powerful vocals, expressive delivery, and commanding stage presence.

A gifted songwriter with a knack for combining memorable melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and raw emotion, Michael earned a publishing deal in the late 1990s with Toronto’s Munition Factory, a division of Cherry Beach Studios. His anthemic song 'Stand Up Tall' was subsequently recorded by award-winning producer Lance Anderson.

In 2003, Michael released his debut indie album, 'The Truth About Love and Tragedy', working with Moody Blues producer Don Garbutt. Blending intimate ballads, driving guitar riffs, and passionate saxophone arrangements, the album showcased his versatility as a songwriter and performer.

For his follow-up album, Leaving Familiar, Michael assembled a talented group of musicians featuring Rob Gusevs, Gary Taylor, Tom Griffiths, and Wayne DeAdder. The recording also featured acclaimed saxophonist John Johnson, award-winning trumpeter Kevin Turcotte, and trombonist Gord Myers. Co-produced by two-time Juno nominee Johnny Max and mixed and mastered by legendary engineer Nick Blagona, the album was launched at Toronto’s renowned Hugh’s Room to rave reviews.

Michael’s songwriting has earned recognition on both national and international stages. His reflective song 'In Stride' received a top-honours placement in the Indie International Songwriting Contest, while 'Leaving Familiar' earned second place in the same competition and became a finalist in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition.
